The Upjohn House in Kalamazoo is a historic Victorian-era residence built in 1877 in the Irregular Italian Villa style for local banker William A. Wood. Characterized by its asymmetrical design, prominent square tower, bracketed cornices, and ornate brick and sandstone detailing, the house reflects the picturesque Italian Revival taste of the late 19th century.
In 1905 it became home to William E. Upjohn, the renowned pharmaceutical entrepreneur who founded the Upjohn Company, linking the property to one of Kalamazoo’s most significant business figures. Today the Upjohn House is appreciated as a local historic landmark owned by The Henderson Castle Foundation and open to the public as a B&B.
